Integrating social value in planning and property development

Completion of a Fellowship at Centre for Urban Studies and participation in new working group 'Eco-Inclusief'

Social value is an increasingly discussed topic within the property industry. In the past year especially, multiple workshops and discussions have been held by industry experts to tackle the challenges of demonstrating social value and social impact in property development.

In 2019, I was awarded a Fellowship Grant by the Centre for Urban Studies at the University of Amsterdam, which she completed in 2020 under the supervision of Prof. Tuna Tasan-Kok, Dr. Sara Özogul and Dr. Gert-Joost Peek. Upon completion, I secured a position as PhD candidate focusing on integrating social value in planning and property development at the University of Amsterdam. Furthermore, I pursued the topic with academics and practitioners in the industry in the Property Webinar Series session: Corporate Social Responsibility in Real Estate in Times of Crises as part of her PhD research.

In parallel, I was invited to join closed sessions with industry experts to discuss the challenges integrating social value in real estate. Aside from my contribution in these sessions, I am now an active participant in the newly formed Eco-Inclusief working group, that aims to create a measurable framework for integrating social elements into real estate and urban areas. The working group consists of experts from the real estate industry, municipality, as well as researchers from other Universities in the Netherlands.
